Africa Day 2026: Celebrating African Unity and Cultural Exchange

A look back at the Africa Day celebration held on May 20, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul.

Africa Day is an important occasion that commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU). Celebrated annually across the continent and around the world, it serves as a reminder of the shared history, achievements, aspirations, and unity of African nations.

This year’s celebration in Seoul brought together ambassadors, diplomats, government representatives, members of African communities, students, professionals, and friends of Africa in Korea. The event provided a valuable platform for cultural exchange, dialogue, and cooperation while highlighting the diversity and richness of the African continent.

On this occasion, the President of SAMBA Corée, His Excellency the Ambassador of Gabon to the Republic of Korea, the Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Gabon, and members of the Gabonese community were honored to attend the event alongside representatives from various African countries and distinguished guests.

Throughout the celebration, participants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful exchanges, strengthen professional and cultural networks, and promote a better understanding of Africa’s cultures, traditions, and contributions to the global community. The event also highlighted the growing relationship between African countries and the Republic of Korea, built on mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation.

Beyond its diplomatic significance, Africa Day remains a celebration of the continent’s cultural wealth and human diversity. It is an opportunity to showcase the values of solidarity, resilience, innovation, and unity that continue to shape Africa’s development and its engagement with the international community.

The participation of the Gabonese community in this event reflects its commitment to promoting Gabonese and African culture in Korea while contributing to stronger ties between African communities and Korean society. It also provided an opportunity to connect with fellow Africans, exchange experiences, and celebrate a shared identity within a multicultural environment.

As we reflect on this memorable celebration, we remain proud to have represented Gabon and to have joined fellow African nations in honoring the spirit of Africa Day. We look forward to continuing to promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and cooperation between Africa and Korea in the years to come.
