On May 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2024, the first African Culture Festival took place, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). This event brought together several African countries, represented by their embassies and communities, providing a unique opportunity to celebrate and share the richness of their respective cultures.
Gabon was one of the most represented countries during these three days, with a notable participation from His Excellency Ambassador Carlos Victor Boungou. As the dean of African ambassadors in the Republic of Korea, he delivered a speech at the festival’s opening ceremony, marking the beginning of the festivities.
The first and third days of the festival highlighted Gabonese culture. An impressive exhibition of traditional masks, stones from Mbigou, and other cultural objects captivated visitors. Photo sessions were offered, and participants, whether Gabonese or Korean, had the opportunity to dance, creating a festive and intercultural atmosphere.
The second day was dedicated to discovering the flavors of Gabon. Visitors could taste Gabon’s “Pierre André” coffee and hibiscus juice, offering a unique gastronomic experience. Fun activities such as ludos games, coloring sessions of Gabon’s coat of arms, and other important elements of Gabonese culture were offered, allowing participants to immerse themselves further in this rich culture.
The 2024 African Culture Festival was a success, showcasing the diversity and beauty of African cultures. Gabon, with its remarkable representation by Samba-Corée through diverse activities, captivated and delighted participants, leaving a lasting impression of Gabonese cultural richness. This festival not only strengthened ties between African and Korean communities but also provided a valuable platform to celebrate and promote African culture in the Republic of Korea.
